The negative effects of chlorine are deadly. It has been found that chlorine can cause detrimental harm to fetuses, infants and children. It reacts with other contaminants in water to create cancer causing compounds.

To combat these harmful compounds, our local Malaysian water authorities use several forms of filtration and purification. Chlorine is added to help kill bacteria, and improve the quality of water. Chlorine – as essential as it is, to treat water – is actually extremely harmful when ingested. It can react with other decaying organic matter found in water, such as twigs, leaves, and dead insects; creating a dangerous cancer-causing compound called Trihalomethanes (THM).

The Use of Activated Carbon

Reduction of chlorine is the most important aspect of water filtration technology. Activated carbon utilises its surface area to bind and contain contaminants. It is most effective at reducing chlorine and other impurities from the water; resulting in the removal of unpleasant odours.
